This folder contains correspondence between James Wine, adviser on religious issues for Senator John F. Kennedy’s 1960 presidential campaign; J. Arthur Lazell, Community Relations manager on religious issues for Senator Kennedy’s campaign; and various individuals from Illinois, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, and Pennsylvania. Topics include the role of religion in the 1960 campaign, the prospect of a Catholic president, and Senator Kennedy’s decision not to speak at a memorial service for four interfaith chaplains who died during World War II. Also included in this folder is a statement by religious leader Norman Vincent Peale.
