In this interview Henry discusses how he first got involved in civil rights activity and how he became an active leader in the NAACP; contact with the Justice Department during the Dwight D. Eisenhower Administration; the FBI investigation into Henry and into the civil rights movement; Henry’s relationship with Medgar Evers; voting rights and voter registration campaigns; beatings and killings of activists in Mississippi; the NAACP and the 1960 presidential election; Jim Silver; Martin Luther King and other civil rights leaders; labor movement leadership and the NAACP in the sixties; the relationships among the various civil rights organizations, including the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, SCLC, and SNCC; organizing boycotts of certain stores; Henry’s arrest in 1961; and the disappearance and murder of Andrew Goodman, Mickey Schwerner, and James Chaney in 1964, among other issues.

This folder contains telegrams and letters from civil rights activist and baseball player Jackie Robinson to President John F. Kennedy regarding African American civil rights and issues related to the Black community, including civil rights legislation; violence against civil rights leaders Martin Luther King, Jr. and Medgar Evers; segregation; and the Freedom Rides organized by the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE). The folder also contains materials related to Robinson's induction in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Materials in this folder include letters questioning the constitutionality of the use of Federal troops in the University of Mississippi unrest, telegrams regarding the possible internment in Arlington Cemetery of slain National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Mississippi field secretary Medgar Evers, and telegrams suggesting the President withhold Federal funds from Mississippi. Of note is a telegram from Evers to the President concerning the mistreatment of African-Americans in Jackson, Mississippi. Also included in this folder is a letter from Tennessee Valley Authority Board of Directors member Frank E. Smith to Assistant Attorney General, Civil Rights Division, Burke Marshall concerning Smith’s knowledge of De La (Delay) Beckworth, the man charged with the murder of Evers.
