Johnson for JFK’s running mate; labor leadership and JFK’s campaign; unions and the religious issue during the 1960 election; discussing presidential appointments with JFK after the election; Conway’s role in JFK’s Administration; the Housing and Home Finance Agency, legislation, and working with Congress; accelerated public works, the Department of Commerce, and problems with the extent of presidential powers; Walter Reuther and his relationship with JFK; confrontations between Johnson and Robert F. Kennedy [RFK]; working with RFK on civil rights marches and their legislative demands; and interactions with RFK from 1964 through 1968, among other issues.

This folder contains material collected by the office of President John F. Kennedy's secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, concerning the Department of Labor. Topics include raising the minimum wage, a labor dispute between ship owners and operators, unemployment in Michigan, and the Missile Sites Labor Commission. Of note is a paper titled, "The International Crisis," concerning the Soviet Union, Berlin, and the United States. Also included in this folder is a report on the maritime labor dispute from the Board of Inquiry that was established under Executive Order 10949.

This folder contains Senator John F. Kennedy’s schedule for September 2, 1960 and speeches given by the Senator in Alaska, California, Idaho, Maine, Michigan, and New Hampshire. In his speeches the Senator discusses the economy, labor, industry, legislation, and international affairs; and asks for support for his 1960 presidential campaign. Of note is Senator Kennedy’s acceptance speech titled, “The New Frontier,” given at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) upon receiving the Democratic Party’s nomination for the 1960 presidential election. In his speech the Senator addresses religion, Communism, nuclear weapons, and civil rights. He also discusses a New Frontier in America, which calls for leadership, courage, change, and opportunity for all.
