This folder contains Senator John F. Kennedy’s schedule for September 2, 1960 and speeches given by the Senator in Alaska, California, Idaho, Maine, Michigan, and New Hampshire. In his speeches the Senator discusses the economy, labor, industry, legislation, and international affairs; and asks for support for his 1960 presidential campaign. Of note is Senator Kennedy’s acceptance speech titled, “The New Frontier,” given at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) upon receiving the Democratic Party’s nomination for the 1960 presidential election. In his speech the Senator addresses religion, Communism, nuclear weapons, and civil rights. He also discusses a New Frontier in America, which calls for leadership, courage, change, and opportunity for all.

In the speeches Senator Kennedy discusses the independence of African nations; emphasizes the need for food, education, and development capital as essential for economic success; and proposes the creation of an African Educational Development Fund and a multi-national economic development fund for Africa. Also included in this folder is a statement by the Senator on violence in South Africa.
