In his speeches the Senator discusses the economy, labor, industry, legislation, and international affairs; and asks for support for his 1960 presidential campaign. Of note is Senator Kennedy’s acceptance speech titled, “The New Frontier,” given at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) upon receiving the Democratic Party’s nomination for the 1960 presidential election. In his speech the Senator addresses religion, Communism, nuclear weapons, and civil rights. He also discusses a New Frontier in America, which calls for leadership, courage, change, and opportunity for all.

The Senator also condemns the usage of the Taft-Hartley emergency injunction and suggests a re-examination of the law's emergency provisions.

He goes on to propose a new coal program containing four central points: the establishment of a national fuels policy; research and development for new uses of coal; the building of new steam plants to convert coal into electricity; and encouraging long-term industrial development in West Virginia.
