Materials in this folder include telegrams, memoranda, newspaper articles, and correspondence between President John F. Kennedy, Assistant Special Counsel to the President Lee C. White, various members of the White House staff, and individual citizens concerning civil rights demonstrations, incidents of police misconduct, and racially motivated violence, including the bombing of the Bethel Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Of note are telegrams to the President from gospel singer Mahalia Jackson and baseball player Jackie Robinson (then the Vice President of Chock Full o’ Nuts).
