Astronaut Lieutenant Colonel John H. Glenn, Jr. (reaching into the capsule) shows President John F. Kennedy (right) the space capsule Friendship 7 following the presentation ceremony of his National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Distinguished Service Medal at Hangar 'S,’ Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Brevard County, Florida. The Friendship 7 carried Lieutenant Colonel Glenn in orbit around the earth three times. Fascell of Florida (partially hidden, in front of Congressman Herlong), Lieutenant Colonel Glenn's son David Glenn (right of Glenn, facing away), his daughter Lyn Glenn (mostly hidden, left of President Kennedy), Senator George Smathers of Florida (in back, left of President Kennedy), Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson (at far right edge of image), and Congressman Paul G. Rogers of Florida (left of Vice President Johnson).
