Collier Trophy for 1961 by the National Aeronautic Association (NAA) to Major Robert M. White, Joseph A. Walker, A. Scott Crossfield, and Commander Forrest Petersen for their skill and courage as test pilots of the X-15 aircraft. O’Brien, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee John Bailey, Special Assistant to the President Kenneth O’Donnell, Special Counsel to the President Theodore Sorensen, and Treasurer of the Democratic National Committee Dick Maguire. The recording of this meeting begins on Tape 120/A56. Participants discuss plans for the 1964 Democratic National Convention. This very long and involved meeting with advisors covers a proposed apportionment rules change, southern delegates, committee positions and assignments, the advantage and disadvantage of requiring loyalty of delegates, the program for the Convention, and films for the Convention. Sound recording of a National Security Council (NSC) meeting held on September 30, 1963, concerning wheat sales to the Soviet Union. Discussed are Canadian-Soviet wheat negotiations and the possible sale of U.S. wheat to the Soviet Union and political pitfalls of such an action. The first eight minutes of the meeting are recorded and then the recording skips to the end of the meeting when President John F. Kennedy asks a smaller group of several staff members to stay to continue the discussion. The discussion with the smaller group continues on Tape 114/A49.
