Medders (USN), during a cake-cutting ceremony to commemorate his visit aboard the cruiser USS Northampton (CC-1), command ship of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet, at sea off the coast of Virginia and North Carolina; Officer Medders was one of the sailors who baked the cake. Assistant Secretary of the Treasury James A. Reed (in back, second from left) and Under Secretary of the Navy Paul B. “Red” Fay (right of Assistant Secretary Reed) stand in the background; crew members look on.
