Kennedy Presidential Library to Host a Public Symposium on the Civil Rights Movement in Boston

Boston, MA – Today the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum announced that it will host a public symposium on the civil rights movement in Boston.  The symposium, which will take place from November 3 – 4, 2006, will feature James Breeden, Sarah Ann Shaw, Mel King, Virgil Wood, and Byron Rushing who all fought for justice during the civil rights movement of the 1960’s.  This event is being presented by the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, the Massachusetts Historical Society and the Museum of African American History.

The symposium will cover the civil rights movement during the tumultuous 1960’s in Boston, with a specific focus of 1960 until 1968 where protests and demonstrations, especially those that challenged segregation in the Boston public schools, and ultimately moved the NAACP to sue the Boston School Committee.
