Moon Beat is an award-winning documentary examining America’s efforts to go to the moon --beginning with President Kennedy’s famous 1961 speech and ending with the successful 1969 landing of Apollo XI -- from the perspective of the journalists who covered the space race.  Filmmaker Kevin Stirling will answer questions following the screening.

In honor of President and Mrs. Kennedy’s commitment to the arts, the Kennedy Library hosts piano iconoclast ELEW, who has pioneered a thunderous new style of playing that he calls Rockjazz.  A winner of the Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition, ELEW has toured the world with Wynton Marsalis and Cassandra Wilson, among other luminaries.  Last spring, he was invited to perform at the White House’s first-ever poetry jam.

Kennedy Advisor Ted Sorensen, along with veteran journalists Russell Baker, Marty Nolan and Sandy Vanocur, who covered the first-ever televised presidential debate, reflect on that historic event and how presidential debates have changed over time.  Tom Oliphant, the Pulitzer Prize-winning former Boston Globe reporter, moderates.
